FOX - While most people use Facebook to keep in touch with friends, a new study suggests the social networking site may also help boost a person's self worth.

A study conducted at Cornell University found participants' Facebook profiles offered reassurance about their self work because their profiles allowed them to display their most valued personal traits and relationships.

Study co-author Jeff Hancock says that, although Facebook can be viewed as a time sink, their research shows that it can be a psychologically meaningful activity.

The findings appear in the March issue of the journal, "Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin."
