Crescent City Classic kicked off Saturday morning

New Orleans, La.- The 35th Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic got underway just after 8 a.m. Saturday with a new route. 

Isaiah Koech of Kenya came in first place, crossing the finish line in 27 minutes and 32 seconds. 

Crescent City Classic officials say Kenyan athletes took home the top 15 spots in the race and the first place finisher may have set an unofficial world-record 8K time of 21:54 in the race. 

Organizers say it will take approximately two weeks to confirm the record break. 

Those who took part in the race have been training for weeks.
