LA State Police: Unrestrained driver killed in I-12 Crash

Robert, La. - Louisiana State Police say a multi-vehicle accident claimed the life of 71-year-old Terry Gerot of Covington on Interstate 12 near Robert.

The accident happened around 6 a.m. Monday morning in the westbound lanes near the LA 445/Robert exit in Tangipahoa Parish.

Investigators say a utility truck stopped behind a disabled car in the left lane and turned on its flashers to alert oncoming traffic.

But, State Police say Terry Gerot didn't see the stopped cars in time. Her pickup truck ran into the back of the Dodge utility truck, pushing it into the disabled car.

Police say Gerot was not wearing a seat belt. The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's office pronounced her dead at the scene.

The drivers of the other vehicles were properly restrained and suffered minor injuries.

Investigators say driver impairment is not suspected as a factor in the accident.
