JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of her husband, who died in 2006 after being doused with hot cooking oil.

The case against Edna Mae Sanders has worked its way through the courts for years. She was convicted of murder in 2008, but released from prison in 2012 when the state Supreme Court upheld a ruling overturning her conviction.

Prosecutors had said Sanders poured the oil on 53-year-old Sherman Sanders while he was asleep at their house in Diamondhead in south Mississippi on July 27, 2006.

Hancock County Circuit Court Clerk Karen Ruhr says Sanders pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday. Her sentencing is scheduled for April 15 in Hancock County Circuit Court.

Sanders had claimed her husband was abusive and she feared for her life.
