New Orleans, LA - The Department of Environmental Quality is investigating complaints of a strong chemical odor from Elmwood to New Orleans and points in between.
But the questions remain, what was it and where did it originate?
The complaints started coming in Tuesday night of a strong smell, possibly natural gas or chemicals.
DEQ sent workers out all over the area to investigate. The Coast Guard is assisting in the investigation.
Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes all received calls about the odor, but no one has been able to identify the source.
A spokesman with Mayor Landrieu's office say they don't believe the smell is coming from Orleans Parish, however, officials continue to look into the matter.
A fire chief in Jefferson Parish tells FOX 8 that the Jefferson Parish Fire Department has not been able to locate a source of the smell and is unsure if it originated in Jefferson Parish.
