Raising Cane's in Algiers catches fire, arson suspected

Algiers, La.- The New Orleans Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at the Raising Cane Restaurant in the 4000 block of Behrman Highway Friday night.

It happened just before 10 p.m. when firefighters arrived on the scene to find the restaurant engulfed in flames.

Investigators say there were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the fire, but six employees were working. All six employees escaped safely.

One employee who was in the dining area told officials that a man with a hooded sweat shirt walked in with a plastic gallon container containing a clear liquid, walked over to a center booth and quickly poured the contents over the area and then used a cigarette lighter to start the blaze.

The man then fled from the restaurant as it went up in flames.

An employee said the man's hoodie covered his face.

Two employees were in the drive-thru area and the other three employees were in the kitchen during the incident.

Twenty-one units carrying 48 firefighters were used to bring this fire under control at 10:46 p.m.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

The fire remains under investigation.

Anyone with any information on this incident is urged to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 504-822-1111.
