Updated:

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Tulane University associate professor Emily Clark will offer insights into the myths and culture surrounding Louisiana's free women of color in a free lecture at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Clark on Tuesday will discuss her new book, "The Strange History of the American Quadroon: Free Women of Color in the Revolutionary Atlantic World." The discussion will delved into and attempt to untangle the myths surrounding the life of an antebellum mixed-race free woman of color, commonly known as a "quadroon."

The lecture is set for 6:30 p.m. at the UL Alumni Center. A book signing will follow.
Clark is an associate professor of history.
