Authorities in Mississippi's Hancock County say they have prepared criminal charges for the district attorney in the death of Jaren Lockhart, a Bourbon Street dancer whose remains were found washed up on Mississippi's beach line last summer.

Glenn Grannan, commander of criminal investigation division of the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, says they are putting together a case against 39-year-old Terry Speaks and 28-year-old Margaret Sanchez -- but it  does not include murder charges.

Grannan says he doesn't believe there is enough evidence to try the couple on murder charges, so they're looking into some alternative charges, including desecration of a human corpse -- legally that could include anything from disposing of a body to cutting up a body.

He says they still have to bring evidence to the DA's office, then possibly before a grand jury.

Lockhart was murdered, dismembered and decapitated after leaving her job at Temptations night club on Bourbon Street June 6.  Her remains washed up on several beaches in Hancock County, Mississippi beginning in late June.

Sanchez was released in August from jail in Tangipahoa Parish, where she'd been held since June 12. That's the night she and Speaks were arrested.  Sanchez was charged with resisting arrest.

Speaks remains in federal custody at last report, charged with failing to properly register as a sex offender.  He was convicted of a sex crime in North Carolina in 2003.
