Low-flying helicopters rattle nerves in N.O.

Several military-style helicopters flying low over the New Orleans area prompted security concerns among area residents, just hours after the deadly explosions in Boston.  But local authorities say there's no need for alarm.

Several FOX 8 viewers called the stations and posted on Twitter and Facebook about the helicopters, ranging in number from four to seven.  Some people say the helicopters were black or dark-colored and could be seen flying with heavy weapons attached.

Communications Director Ryan Berni with the Mayor's Office called the overflights a "pre-planned Homeland Security training exercise" but provided no further information, and did not indicate how long the overflights would continue.
