Slidell Police arrest X-Factor contestant for stealing a car

New Orleans, La -- Officers with the Slidell Police Department arrested a man after stealing a car and leading police on a chase. The incident occurred Monday at 8:15 p.m. at the Kangaroo Gas Station on Voters Rd. The man has been identified as 20-year-old Orrion Wilson of Florida.

According to police a man left his car running as he went into the gas station. Wilson entered the car, put his suitcase in the backseat and drove away. The owner of the car notified Slidell Police who quickly pursued the vehicle. A short time later, an officer spotted the vehicle and gave chase. Wilson refused to stop for the officer. At one point, Wilson was traveling faster than 75 mph through the Slidell City limits. The first responding officer performed a "Pit Maneuver" and stopped the vehicle in a grassy area on Interstate 10 near where the vehicle was stolen.

Wilson exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended. During questioning, Wilson told police that he was in New Orleans auditioning for the FOX show X-Factor. He used all of his money on cab fare and was left in Slidell. Wilson was anxious to get back home to Florida, because the producers of the show asked him to return next week in New York. Wilson decided to steal a car to get home, telling police "I had no choice".

Wilson was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $500, criminal damage, resisting an officer and aggravated flight from an officer. Wilson will be transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where a bond will be set.

Police say that it is unknown if Wilson will be out of jail in time to attend X-Factor auditions next week in New York.
