FOX 8 received this news release from the New Orleans Police Dept. Thursday evening:

Eighth District Narcotics detectives arrested a teenager for prostitution last week which led to additional arrests yesterday for illegal gun possession as well as possession of thousands of dollars worth in illegal drugs.

On April 10th, detectives tracked an ad offering sex in exchange for money on the website "". They were directed to the 200-block of Royal Street, and arrested 17-year-old Kayla Francis for prostitution. Francis was cooperative and identified 27-year-old Lydell Hinton as the panderer who got her involved in the prostitution business.

Yesterday, the NOPD detectives teamed up with FBI agents and members of NOPD's Violent Offenders Warrants Squad (VOWS) and obtained an arrest warrant for Hinton as well as a search warrant for his residence on North Johnson Street. Before the group headed to the house, two FBI agents who were assigned to watch the property, saw Hinton get into a truck and drive off with an unidentified woman and child. The agents followed the truck, and soon Eighth District officers were able to pull Hinton over and take him into custody without incident. Officers also secured a fully-loaded handgun that was in plain view on the driver's seat.

When officers entered the residence on North Johnson, they arrested 34-year-old Cedric Robins, who was in possession of large quantities of high- grade as well as loose marijuana, which combined had a street value of between $30,000 to $37,000. Detectives also found another loaded handgun in the home near the drugs.

Arrests in this case were as follows:

Kayla Francis was booked with Relative to Prostitution.

Lydell Hinton was booked with Pandering, Illegal Possession of a Dangerous Substance, Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Marijuana. He has prior arrests for Possession of Crack Cocaine and traffic violations.

Cedric Robins was booked with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon while in Possession of Narcotics, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.

Superintendent Ronal Serpas said, "Our Eighth District detectives embarked on a mission to make prostitution arrests, and wound up getting two semiautomatic weapons off the streets, as well as more than $30,000 worth in drugs."

"This was well-executed work by our narcotics detectives and members of our VOWS Unit. And as always, we appreciate the assistance of our partners in the FBI."
