Louisiana Intl. Film Festival opens at Joy Theater

New Orleans, La. -

The Louisiana International Film Festival opened Thursday evening in New Orleans.

Most of the film screenings, workshops and parties will take place in Baton Rouge over the weekend.  But organizers chose New Orleans' Joy Theater to host opening night.

New Orleans' own Jonathan Batiste was among the musicians welcoming patrons  to the screening of "Twenty Feet From Stardom", a documentary film starring New Orleans native Merry Clayton.

Organizers say the festival aims to act as a conduit for education and outreach for Louisiana residents interested in the state's film industry.
