St. Bernard church secretary accused of stealing more than $100K


Chalmette, La. - A St. Bernard Parish church official was booked Friday with felony theft for allegedly embezzling more than $100,000 in church funds since 2006, according Sheriff James Pohlmann.

Pohlmann said the investigation of Trinette Johnson, 39, of Violet, was initiated by church members. Johnson had been a longtime church secretary and account executive for the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She surrendered at the parish jail on Friday after learning that a judge had signed a warrant for her arrest.

Church members gave investigators a copy of church banking records along with information from a CPA forensic specialist retained to look into the missing funds.

Johnson was expected to be released on $10,000 bond.
