Search to intensify for Terrilynn Monnette

Missing Teacher Terrilynn Monnette Missing Teacher Terrilynn Monnette

New Orleans, La -On Monday morning, the search for missing Harvey teacher Terrilynn Monnette continues. But this time, new crews are coming in and using much more powerful, high-tech equipment to search local waterways.

For seven weeks, volunteers and local law enforcement agencies have been searching for 26-year-old Terrilynn Monnette. The school teacher left Parlay's bar in Lakeview in the early morning hours of March 2nd, and was never seen again.

State Representative Austin Badon has coordinated previous searches in Lake Pontchartrain with Wildlife and Fisheries agents. But on Monday, the Harbor Police will come in, at Badon's request, for a more in-depth look at the lake. They'll search from the Industrial Canal at the Seabrook Bridge all the way to the West End. Badon explains, "Wildlife and Fisheries went out about 30 feet, they're going to go out about 100 feet and scan the bottom. They have some really high tech equipment that could give some great images."

In addition to Harbor Police, a dive team will focus their efforts on Bayou St. John. Badon explains, "The NOPD dive team is going to go out and they're going to dive on approximately 25-26 target items in Bayou St. John. A target item can be anything from a refrigerator to a big rock, to a car or a truck."

Badon says nothing can be ruled out about this now he's requesting the FBI join in. "We have to assume that her car is still in good working order and could go over state lines. There is a definite link between New Orleans and California, between people and locations out of state, so we need the FBI to bring in their resources and help out with this case," Badon said.

Monnette's family, meanwhile, is desperate for answers. Badon says both he and the family are still hopeful though, that they will bring Terrilynn home.

The reward for information about Monnette's whereabouts is now up to $20,000.

If you know where she is, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
