Ponchatoula High School on lock down following nearby murder

New Orleans, La - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a shooting incident near Ponchatoula High School. The incident occurred Tuesday at 7:40 a.m. in the 39000 block of Brookfield Drive in Ponchatoula. The victim has been identified as 39-year-old April Vanderlinden.

According to police, officers responded to a call of gunfire on Brookfield Drive. Responding officers arrived on scene to find Vanderlinden suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to North Oaks Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police have named 18-year-old Ryan Pourciau as a person of interest in the shooting. The sheriff's department holds an active warrant for violate protective orders on him. Because of the close proximity to Ponchatoula High School and Pourciau's connections to the Ponchatoula High, the school has been placed on lockdown.

The investigation into the incident continues.
