Ex-Jefferson Parish official sentenced

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A man who once served as the top aide to disgraced former Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard has been sentenced to three years of probation in a federal corruption case.

Tim Whitmer also was fined $5,000 Thursday morning. He pleaded guilty last year to concealing fraud, theft involving government programs and other crimes.

Broussard was sentenced earlier this year to serve 46 months for conspiracy and theft charges in a plot to give a lucrative parish job to his former wife and pay her for work she never did.

Whitmer cooperated with investigators in the case against Broussard.
