Covington, La. - Covington Police Chief Richard Palmisano was terminated Friday, according to his attorney Eric Hessler.

Hessler says a hearing was held Friday morning where Palmisano received a letter of termination.

Hessler says the firing stems from a series of allegations of wrongdoing by Covington Police Officers and they way they were handled by Palmisano.

Mayor Mike Cooper outlined those allegations in a letter dating back to 2011.

Hessler says he believes the firing was unjust and claims that even before Cooper was elected mayor, he planned to get rid of Palmisano.

Hessler and Palmisano intend to fight the termination. They filed an appeal letter Friday morning.

Mayor Cooper held a news conference Friday afternoon to release more information.
