NOPD: suspect shot, killed by homeowner


New Orleans, La. - The NOPD is investigating a shooting in the 1500 block of N. Broad Street that left one man dead.

Police say a homeowner shot a suspect who entered the home without permission. 

Around 2:15pm, two NOPD bicycle officers were unloading their bikes when they were alerted by citizens of a person that was bloody and acting irate in the street.

The officers went to investigate and found the man on Laharpe Street. When they went to question him, the suspect one of the officers and began running down N. Broad.

The officers lost sight of the suspect and when they reached a home in the 1500 block of Broad, they heard one gunshot.

A resident inside of the home ran out and told the officers that an unknown male entered their house and began fighting with the people inside.

A man inside of the house, fearing for his life and others inside, shot the suspect. 

The unidentified suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died.  

Police say that no charges have been filed pending consultation by the District Attorney's Office.
