Slidell woman killed in train accident

A Slidell woman killed by a train allegedly got stuck on the tracks Sunday night.

The accident happened at the intersection of Front Street and Lafayette in Slidell.

Police say 57 year-old Bonnie Gibbs accidentally drove her car off the roadway causing it to get stuck in the gravel.

The rear end of the vehicle was still on the tracks when a southbound train started quickly approaching.

Detectives say at the last minute Gibbs jumped out of her car and tried to get away.

The train hit the car and sent it spinning hitting Gibbs.

Police say she was on the way to the grocery at the time of the accident.
