Plaquemines Parish to use ALERT FM for emergency notifications

FOX 8 received this news release from Plaquemines Parish Government Tuesday afternoon:

Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser announced today that the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP) has successfully implemented ALERT FM as part of its parish-wide notification capabilities. ALERT FM will allow OHSEP to notify residents of emergency information via ALERT FM receivers- that receive messages using the data subcarrier of local FM radio stations- and a smart phone application for both Apple iOS and Google Android. This new system was fully funded by a grant obtained by the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) according to Kevin Davis, Director of GOHSEP.

"ALERT FM will be a great asset to our notification capabilities," said Guy Laigast OHSEP Director. "ALERT FM will allow us to keep residents up-dated on mobile receivers and smart phones of critical information even during evacuations."

To receive public information such as road closures, weather warnings, or post weather instructions, residents will need to download the ALERT FM App on their smart phone device or purchase an ALERT FM receiver. ALERT FM receivers can be purchased at www.alertfm.com and the ALERT FM App can be downloaded from iTunes (http://imap.tv/2k) or Google Play (http://goo.gl/qwQyu).
