State urges Louisiana citizens to file taxes electronically

Baton Rouge, La. - Louisiana taxpayers face a May 15th deadline to get their state taxes filed.

The state Department of Revenue is urging taxpayers that if you file online, they could get their refunds quicker and eliminate the possibility of late payment penalties.

"The most important thing you can do to ensure a speedy refund is to file your taxes electronically," says LDR Executive Counsel Tim Barfield.

The state says taxpayers who file electronically can expect their refunds in an average of ten business days. It adds those who mail in their returns could expect to wait as long as four months to get their refunds.

The state also encourages anyone who owes taxes to pay electronically.

Taxpayers can file their return and pay their taxes by visiting the Louisiana File Online website. Click here to be taken to the website.
