FOX 8 received this news release from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon:
Sheriff Newell Normand reports, on April 30, 2013, around 5:33 PM, Chezare Lawson, B/M, 31, of 11xx Avenue E, in Westwego was pronounced dead at West Jefferson Medical Center. Homicide Detective Rhonda Goff conducted a follow-up investigation into the death of Chezare Lawson and learned after speaking with Lawson's family members that he was the victim of a beating.
The alleged offense occurred on April 27, 2013 at a Discount Store in the 6600 block of the Westbank Expressway in Marrero. During the incident, it was reported Lawson was beaten with a baseball bat by two individuals identified only by the nicknames of "Nanoonie and Tae Tae". Immediately following the beating, Chezare Lawson returned to his home in Westwego, choosing not to seek medical attention. Shortly that same evening, Chezare Lawson suffered a seizure and was transferred to West Jeff Hospital where he underwent treatment until he was pronounced dead on April 30th.
Investigators are attempting to identify both nicknamed suspects at this time, and are also trying to locate any witnesses to the alleged beating of Chezare Lawson.
Anyone with information in this matter is asked to contact Detective Rhonda Goff at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers.
A JPSO spokesman indicates the beating itself took place in the parking lot of the store.
