Terrebonne Sheriff warns about telemarketers

New Orleans, La. - The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office wants residents to know it is not affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police as residents get telemarketing calls seeking donations for the organization.

The Sheriff's Office released its warning Friday.  Sheriff Jerry J. Larpenter stated,"Telemarketers hired by the local FOP lodge are actively soliciting donations through telephones calls to local citizens. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office does not support this mission due to the fact that the majority of the donations do not directly benefit the FOP or any local deputy or officer."

The sheriff said a handful of local law enforcement officers are members of FOP, but the organization is not supported by him or the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.

Larpenter urged citizens with questions to contact their local law enforcement agency before making a donation.
