Mother of woman held captive has message for parents

New Orleans, La. - The mother of one of the Ohio women held captive for a decade has a message for parents: Participate in the annual Night Out Against Crime.

Gina DeJesus' mom says the events can give parents tools to protect their children.

People with Crimestoppers say the events can also help neighbors get know each other. They say that's key to being able to recognize suspicious behavior near your home.

Night Out Against Crime events will happen October 15 all over the metro area. If you'd like to get your neighborhood involved, click here to find contact information for Crimestoppers. The organization can help you coordinate an event.
