Flash flood watch through Saturday night

New Orleans, La. - The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a flash flood watch for portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi through Saturday night.

Heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts is expected across the area Friday and Saturday.

Recent heavy rains have led to saturated soils and higher than normal river levels. This amount of rain can quickly run off of the saturated soils and possibly cause flash flooding of streets, bayous, canals and poorly drained areas.

IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA...ASCENSION...ASSUMPTION...EAST BATON ROUGE...EAST FELICIANA...IBERVILLE...LIVINGSTON...NORTHERN TANGIPAHOA...ORLEANS...POINTE COUPEE...SOUTHERN TANGIPAHOA... ST. CHARLES...ST. * HEAVY RAINFALL OF 2 TO 4 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. RECENT HEAVY RAINS HAVE LED TO SATURATED SOILS AND HIGHER THAN NORMAL RIVER LEVELS.

THIS AMOUNT OF RAIN CAN QUICKLY RUN OFF OF THE SATURATED SOILS AND POSSIBLY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING AND FLOODING.

* FLOODING OF STREETS...BAYOUS...CANALS AND POORLY DRAINED AREAS WILL BE POSSIBLE WHERE HEAVY RAINFALL REPEATEDLY OCCURS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
