A California woman faces charges after she allegedly slapped a sheriff's deputy, as part of her plan to quit smoking.
"It was totally unprovoked," recalled Sacramento County Deputy Matt Campoy in an interview provided by CNN. "All of a sudden, she stepped into me and slapped me in the face."
Authorities say 31-year-old Etta Lopez admitted that she waited outside of the county jail for several hours Tuesday.
When Deputy Campoy left the jail at the end of his shift, Lopez blocked Campoy's way and slapped him.
She allegedly confessed that she planned to assault an officer, so that she would be put in jail and forced to stop smoking cigarettes.
Lopez was booked with suspicion of battery on a peace officer.
