Two minors killed in car accident

New Orleans, La - Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B are investigating a car accident that left two minors dead. The accident occurred Sunday at 2:00 a.m. on Hwy 44, just east of Hwy 54 in St. John the Baptist Parish. The victims have been identified as 10-year-old Darquell Scott and 15-year-old Daryell Johnson.

Police say that 37-year-old Daris Scott was driving a car on Hwy 44 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree. Scott and front-seat passenger Angel Scott were wearing their seat belts and only received minor injuries. Back seat passengers Darquell Scott and Daryell Johnson, were not wearing their seat belts and were pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators believe that speed is a factor in the crash. Blood was drawn from Daris Scott for a toxicology analysis to determine if he was impaired at the time of the crash. The crash is still under investigation.
