New Orleans, La. - Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman says the victims of the Mother's Day shooting that wounded 19 people may be eligible for medical assistance and recovery of lost wages under the Louisiana Crime Victims Reparations Act.

Under the program, Orleans Parish residents may be eligible for assistance with medical bills after they have exhausted their insurance benefits. Gusman says at that point, the program will cover up to 55 percent of medical bills.

The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement has pledged to process applications from Sunday's shooting on an expedited basis.

To find out if you are eligible, victims or an immediate family member may call the Sheriff's Office at 504-827-6754 or 504-827-6702.  And you can find applications and more information at http://lcle.la.gov/programs/cvr.asp.
