Sheriff's deputies search for worker in transitional work program

New Orleans, La. - Orleans sheriff's deputies are searching for an inmate who walked away from his job at a transitional work program Monday.

The Orleans Sheriff's Office says 29 year-old Leroy Smith showed up at his work program job at a New Orleans business Sunday night.

But later that night, the business reported him missing around 12:30am.

Smith was just a month and days away from his scheduled release date.

He was originally arrested for cocaine, burglary and a probation violation back in November of 2011.

If you have any information that could help investigators track Smith down, contact the Orleans Sheriff's office or call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
