Moore, Okla. - It was a funnel cloud that eventually turned into a monster tornado as much as two miles wide, packing winds up to 200 miles an hour.

As the tornado moved through the Oklahoma City suburbs, the only indication of what was going on down below was the large flashes of power lines exploding.

In the moments after the large twister passed, it became clear the devastation was great. Block after block of Moore, Oklahoma lay in ruins, with heaps of debris piled up where homes used to be. Buildings caught fire and cars and trucks were left crumbled on the roadsides.

Plaza Towers Elementary School took a direct hit. 75 people were reportedly inside of the building at the time and dozens of young children were trapped under the rubble.

Volunteers and first responders raced to the school, where a massive search and rescue effort was soon under way. Several children were pulled alive from the rubble and passed down a human chain to a triage center in the parking lot.

Other, though are still unaccounted for.  The desperate search and rescue continued into the night.
