New Orleans fugitive arrested in California

New Orleans, La. - California authorities report they have arrested New Orleans fugitive, Darnell Ellis, who is wanted on charges for drugs and gang activity.

East Palo Alto deputies say yesterday evening Ellis led them on a foot chase and was caught with ecstasy pills and marijuana.

Ellis and 10 others were indicted by District Attorney, Leon Cannizzaro in 2010 for conspiracy to distribute illegal narcotics and racketeering.

New Orleans Police were able to find and bring the 10 others involved into custody that year, however Ellis has been on the loose since then.

NOPD says Darnell Ellis and the others known as the"6th Ward D-Block" terrorized an area bounded by North Broad Street and Esplanade, North Claiborne and Orleans Avenues.

San Mateo County Deputies are holding Ellis on a felony fugitive warrant.

Ellis awaits to be transported from the San Mateo County Jail to Orleans Parish Prison.
