Bayou Corne, La. - The Assumption Parish sinkhole may force drivers to find a new route.

The Department of Transportation and Development is working to figure out what to do with Highway 70 traffic, if the sinkhole ends up compromising the highway.

The DOTD has installed several monitoring stations along Highway 70 and bridges over Bayou Corne, Grand Bayou and Bayou Choupique. The stations will help engineers detect movement and changes in elevation near the sinkhole site.

Engineers plan to work through the summer to come up with a possible route for an alternate highway.
