Police name suspect in Algiers shooting

FOX 8 News received this news release from the New Orleans Police Dept. Thursday evening:

Early Monday morning Fourth District detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Kemond Pierre, for shooting a 25-year-old man multiple times, Sunday May 16, 2013, around 8:30PM, in the 2100 block of Springbrook Lane Algiers.

Pierre and the victim were involved in a verbal dispute which quickly turned violent. Pierre produced a pistol and fired multiple shots at the victim striking him several times. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The victim survived the shooting and he's currently recovering from his injuries.

Detective Jeffrey Wellborn was able to develop Pierre as a suspect through witness participation.

Pierre has been previously arrested for Distribution of Marijuana, which he's currently on Parole for until 2015.

Once apprehended Kemond Pierre will be charged with one count of Aggravated Battery and Illegal Possession of a Firearm. His photo is attached to this release.
