21 arrested in Plaquemines Parish drug bust

Belle Chasse, La. - A four month undercover drug operation in Plaquemines Parish ends with 21 arrests.

Sheriff Lonnie Greco says they have cases against 27 defendants in all, three of which are still at large.

Narcotics officers made drug purchases from suspects throughout the parish and started rounding up suspects two weeks ago.

Sheriff Greco says most of them have prior arrest records and this time they'll be staying in jail.

"There is no revolving door. We will make sure you are not going to be walking in the streets like you do in Jefferson and Orleans. I'm not saying anything bad about those parishes, it's just that they are full to capacity and have to make room for the most violent, but over here we have plenty room," said Greco.

A new 800 bed prison is set to open in Plaquemines Parish next Spring.
