Hammond, La. - The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent murder-suicide at a home in Hammond.

A police spokesman says around 11:45 a.m. Monday, deputies were called to the 47,000 block of Brittani Court in Hammond for a welfare check. Deputies arrived at the home and knocked on the door, but no one answered. Police could hear a baby inside.

Deputies entered the home through an unlocked side door and discovered a five-month-old child unattended in a seat in a front room. Deputies called out several times announcing their presence but no one answered.

As they searched the home, they located a man and a woman, both shot to death, in a rear bedroom.

Monday afternoon, the Sheriff's Office released this statement from Chief Dennis Pevey:

TPSO, LSP Crime Lab and Coroners office have cleared the scene on Brittani Court.

Evidence recovered has revealed that Brandon Colona 10/8/1086 shot and killed his girlfriend (Theresa Doby 10/19/1991) with a handgun (40cal) before turning it on himself.

Both currently resided at this address. The motive behind this tragic scene is unclear at this time. The child located earlier is safe and in good health remaining with family members.

If any more information is uncovered another update will follow.

Our hearts go out to the families and community affected by this tragedy.
