Kentwood woman dies in I-55 crash

HAMMOND, La. (AP) - State police say a 63-year-old Kentwood woman died from injuries received after she drove her car into a ditch alongside Interstate 55 in Hammond.

Troopers say Linda Hilbert was traveling southbound in the left lane of I-55 when her vehicle began to veer left, causing her to overcorrect right. The car then crossed both lanes of southbound traffic and plunged into a nearby ditch, eventually coming to rest on its side.

Investigators say Hilbert, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office, was wearing a seat belt.

The accident remains under investigation.
