Police respond to bank robbery in Hammond

NEW ORLEANS, La - FOX 8 just received the following news release from Lt. Vincent Giannobile with the Hammond Police Department:

Hammond Police are currently working a bank robbery at First Guaranty Bank at 2111 West Thomas Street. Police received a call at approximately 11:50 am. from First Guaranty Bank stating that they were just robbed. When Officers arrived at the scene, the bank had been locked and secured.  Actually, no one in the bank knew it was robbed other than the teller. The suspect gave the teller a note stating he was robbing the bank and that he had a gun. No gun was actually shown to the teller.  After she read the note, he took it back from her. After he received the money, he casually walked out of the bank. 

The suspect is described as a white male 5 8", 150 lbs, and in his mid 50s. The suspect was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and a black baseball cap with grey lettering. The suspect's hair was short and he had earrings in both ears. He also was wearing circular eye glasses. 

The suspect drove a early 90s dark red or maroon Dodge Dakota with black railing and black bed liner. The license plate was covered with an unknown material. The suspect left the bank headed Eastbound on West Thomas Street. 

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to call the Hammond Police Department at 985- 277-5701, or Crimestoppers of Tangipahoa at 800-554-5245. A reward is available and tipsters will remain anonymous.
