Traffic stop leads to arrest of man for narcotics, carnal knowledge

FOX 8 received this news release from the Kenner Police Dept. Thursday evening:

On Tuesday, June 18, 2013, Brian Sandoval, 26, of 2405 21st Street, was stopped driving a 1994 Olds Regency in reference to traffic violations (expired brake tag). Upon officers approaching the vehicle, narcotics detectives observed a young female seated in the front passenger seat and evidence of several used condoms spread about the floor of the vehicle. Upon being interviewed, the female passenger admitted being a 14-year-old runaway from Jefferson Parish (Harvey). The juvenile advised that she had met Sandoval on a social media website and had been chatting with him for approximately one year. On June 17, 2013, Sandoval picked the juvenile up in Harvey and drove her to his home in Kenner, where she spent the night. The juvenile admitted that she had been involved in a romantic relationship with 26 year old Sandoval and had engaged in consensual sexual intercourse.

Upon detectives interviewing Sandoval, Sandoval admitted to having sexual intercourse with the 14 year old juvenile and knowing the juvenile's true age. Sandoval also admitted to knowing that the juvenile had ran away from home and that he had picked her up from a west bank location. Sandoval admitted to meeting the juvenile on a social media website where they began conversing via chat which led to them eventually meeting in person, and engaging in sex on numerous occasions.

Sandoval who was arrested was found to possess .6 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Sandoval was arrested and charged with the crimes of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. At the time of this press release, Sandoval has been released from custody on a $11,000.00 commercial bond set by 24th Judicial Court Commissioners. The juvenile was charged in reference to her delinquent status.
