Houma man arrested for fatally shooting brother

Houma, La. - FOX 8 received the following news release from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office:

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that on June 23, 2013, Sunday morning, at 1:19 a.m. Terrebonne Parish deputies responded to 5569 West Park Ave. Houma in reference to a shooting.

Deputies and detectives arrived at this location and made contact with the suspect who is identified as William Loring. William stated that he was home alone when his brother Ricky Loring arrived there and wanted fight with him. William stated that Ricky was banging on the front door and when he attempted to open the door Ricky rushed in and this is when he shot and killed him. William then left the scene and went to a relative's residence and informed them of what happened before returning to the scene and calling the Sheriff's Office. At 3:02 a.m. Ricky Gerald Loring, age-57, 302 Madewood Dr. Houma was pronounced dead at the scene.

William Loring was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office where he was interviewed by detectives. William admitted to shooting and killing Ricky with a handgun because he felt like Ricky was going to hurt him. A handgun believed to be the murder weapon was recovered at the scene. William stated on Saturday evening at approximately 7:00 p.m. he and Ricky smoked crack cocaine together and Ricky later became angry with him because he refused to buy more drugs. William and Ricky have been arrested in the past on drug charges.

Detectives arrested William Fitzgerald Loring, age-52, 5569 West Park Ave. Houma, La. for second degree murder.  William remains in the Terrebonne Parish Jail without bond.
