DOTD suspends sale of ferry tickets statewide

New Orleans -- The Louisiana Department of Transportation Division announced Wednesday the suspension of paper ferry tickets across the state. The DOTD will stop selling the tickets on June 30, 2013. The cause of the suspension is due to low utilization and the high cost of production, according to a DOTD release.

"The cost of producing, distributing, and handling the script tickets far exceeds the revenue generated," said Rhett Desselle, DOTD Assistant Secretary for Operations. "Therefore in order to streamline operations and reduce operating costs, DOTD has decided to discontinue the sale and use of ferry ticket scripts after the fiscal year."

Any tickets that were purchased before June 30 can be used through the end of the year and will not be accepted after December 31, 2013. The suspension of sales affects the following ferry locations:

  • Algiers
  • Chalmette
  • Plaquemine/Sunshine
  • Cameron/Holly Beach
  • Duty/Enterprise
