FOX 8 received this news release from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office Friday evening:

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who escaped from custody Friday afternoon, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.

Jakahari Williams, 18, was arrested Wednesday June 26, 2013 by the Houma Police Department. He was jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for multiple offenses including illegal carrying of a weapon, domestic abuse battery, and possession of illegal narcotics. This morning, Williams was transported to Chabert Hospital to receive medical treatment for an apparent seizure.

While receiving medical treatment, the inmate was assigned to a private room and a correctional officer remained with him. At approximately 4:00 p.m., the inmate was unrestrained by the deputy to use the restroom. The inmate managed to escape from the room and fled the hospital wearing a medical gown and boxer shorts.

Deputies flooded the area in an attempt to locate Williams. Williams' medical gown was found discarded in the area of Industrial Avenue near Glynn Avenue. Witnesses in the area reported seeing the suspect accept a ride from a black male subject in a black mid-sized car with dark tinted windows and proceed towards west Houma.

Williams' last known addresses are 300 Antoine Street and 600 Columbus Street in Houma. TPSO is currently searching for Williams for simple escape.

If anyone has information concerning his whereabouts, please do not attempt to apprehend. Please contact TPSO immediately.

Williams is a black male, approximately 5'6", 140 pounds. He has a tattoo of the word "kite" on his left arm. He has tattoos of the words "Dog" and JW" on his right arm.
