FOX 8 received the following news release from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office Saturday morning:
A suspect was arrested Saturday morning for the murder of a Houma man, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office patrolmen and detectives were in the area of Crozier Drive in Dularge early Saturday morning patrolling for an unrelated matter when they were alerted by several residents of a suspicious situation on Williams Street nearby. Several subjects in the area reported hearing gunshots from the end of Williams Street and further reported that a vehicle involved in the shooting had crashed near the front of Williams Street.
Units responded to the area within one minute and found a vehicle crashed into a parked car in the 100 block of Williams Street. The vehicle was found unoccupied. The investigators followed a trail of blood towards the end of the street where they located a subject lying in a yard. The subject suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Prior to losing consciousness, the victim, identified as Dicarie James, 36 of 6823 West Main Street in Houma, told investigators that a subject named Matthew Allen shot him.
Medical assistance arrived on scene and the victim was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 1:04 a.m.
Detectives apprehended Allen later that morning in west Houma at a family member's residence. Allen, 19, is a resident of 204 Henderson Street in Houma.
Statements obtained from witnesses indicate that Allen shot James multiple times while inside James' vehicle on Williams Street. Information obtained indicated that Allen shot James because of a previous disagreement of an illegal narcotics transaction.
This matter is still under investigation. If anyone has any information concerning this crime, please contact TPSO at 985-876-2500.
