Marrero, La. - A Marrero teen was killed early Sunday morning after he was accidentally shot by his friend as they examined an AR-15 rifle, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Trey Stahl. Christian Cardon, 23, whom police said has admitted to accidentally firing the weapon, was booked with one count of negligent homicide.
According to police, the victim and several friends were inside a home in the 2000 block of James Drive in Marrero. Cardon told investigators he was showing the group the recently purchased AR-15 semi-automatic rifle when it discharged. Cardon said he left the weapon's magazine in his car prior to bringing it into the home, but he didn't realize it had a live round in the chamber.
Cardon told investigators that he pulled the trigger in an attempt to clear the weapon, causing it to discharge. Stahl was struck in the neck and pronounced dead on the scene.
