New Orleans, La. - Parents are being warned not to let the fun of the long Independence holiday weekend distract them from beating a deadline that impacts where their kids can go to school in the fall.

Parents must register by Monday to keep their kids in one of the five Orleans Parish School Board direct-run schools.

Parents who don't beat the deadline will see their kids' lose their seats.

The deadline applies to only the following schools: Benjamin Franklin Elementary, Eleanor McMain Secondary, Mahalia Jackson Elementary, Mary Bethune Elementary and McDonogh 35 College Prep High School.
