Jefferson Parish prepares for potential heavy rain

Jefferson, La. - Jefferson Parish is expected to experience potentially heavy rainfall and possible street flooding as a strong weather system passes through the area over the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Jefferson Parish in effect until 7:00am on Sunday.

There is a possibility of heavy downpours which may produce possibly 2 to 4 inches of rainfall through Sunday morning.

Particularly heavy rainfall is possible within the Watch area which could produce flooding in streets, bayous, and canals. Deep tropical moisture along with slow moving showers and thunderstorms could result in possible flash flooding during this period.

Drainage Pump Stations staff and field crews are available for the duration of this anticipated weather.

Citizens are asked to help reduce the chance of street flooding by clearing debris from their streets and drains around their property; such debris impedes water flow into the drainage system.
