Larose man booked in multiple car burglaries

FOX 8 received the following news release Friday afternoon from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office:

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Larose man has been charged in multiple vehicle burglaries after being detained and disarmed by a citizen who caught him in the act. Eric Carney (H/M, D.O.B. 09/18/90) of 843 Highway 24 has already been charged in multiple burglaries in the Larose area as detectives continue their investigation.

Just before 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, a resident of East 2nd Street in Larose discovered an unknown male subject inside his vehicle and retrieved a firearm to confront the man. After being confronted with the firearm, the burglar became compliant and surrendered a knife and brass knuckles. The citizen then contacted the Sheriff's Office and detained the subject until deputies arrived.

Upon arrival, the citizen turned the burglar over to deputies, and he was placed under arrest. The burglar, identified as Eric Carney, was found to be in possession of several items which were later reported stolen. One of those items was a prescription bottle containing Xanax pills. Through investigation, detectives discovered six other vehicles Carney allegedly burglarized, and he attempted to break in to two others.

Carney was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He has been booked with aggravated burglary, six counts of simple burglary, two counts of attempted vehicle burglary, and possession of alprazolam (Xanax). Carney is now being held in lieu of $280,000 bond as set by Judge Walter Lanier III.

Detectives are looking into other burglaries reported in the area as their investigation into is continuing. Anyone who may have information on burglaries in this area, or information regarding Carney, is asked to contact Detective Warren Callais at (985) 532-4320.
