Federal judge selects consent decree monitor


New Orleans -- A federal judge has decided on a consent decree monitor who will oversee sweeping reforms for the NOPD. Judge Susie Morgan announced on Friday that the Law Firm of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter and Hampton, saying that the team was more experienced and better equipped to handle oversight of the consent decree. The Justice Department also preferred the firm for the job.

Jonathan Aronie, who served as Deputy Monitor for the Washington D.C. Police Department, leads the team. 

The Sheppard Mullin's Bid was also the more expensive of the two finalists. It is estimated at $7.9 million for four years.
