Driver killed in single-car crash in Livingston Parish

FOX 8 received the following news release Saturday from the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office:

On July 6, 2013 shortly after 1:00 a.m., Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office was notified of an accident involving a single vehicle on Burgess Road just north of Oak Alley Drive.  The driver, a 57-year-old male, was pronounced deceased by the Livingston Parish Coroner's Office on scene.  A 29-year-old male who was a passenger in the vehicle declined treatment by medical personnel.

Initial reports are that the vehicle struck an electric utility pole causing damage that required Dixie Electric Membership Corporation (DEMCO) to be called in to make repairs to the utility pole. Because of this repair work, a complete road closure at Burgess Road near Oak Alley Drive was in effect until 11:10 a.m. The northbound lane of travel on Burgess Road is now open with the southbound lane expected to be open within the next hour.

An investigation as to the cause of the accident is being conducted and still in the initial stages so there is no further to report at this time.
