Maurepas, La. - The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a mother Monday in connection with an injury her toddler sustained after she allegedly left him and his sister alone in a car.

Candace Gordon, 20, of Denham Springs,  faces one count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles and two counts of child desertion.

According to investigators, on July 3 Gordon stopped at the home of a friend on Old River Road in Maurepas and left her 2-year-old son and 14-month-old daughter in her car with the engine running.

While Gordon was inside the home, the 2-year-old managed to free himself from his car seat and began playing with car's window controls. He rolled the passenger window up onto his neck, causing him to lose consciousness.

The boy was rushed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. He was released July 6.

Gordon bonded out of the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Tuesday.

There are no further updates on the condition of the 2-year-old.
