Houma man arrested in wife's shooting

Houma, La. - A Houma man was arrested Saturday for allegedly shooting his wife, according to Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter.

At about 2 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call from a camp at Gabi Court in Dularge. When they arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound to the neck. The woman's husband, Christopher Toups, 33, initially said the shooting was an accident, but later claimed to have no knowledge of how his wife had been shot, Larpenter said.

Information obtained from patrons at a bar the couple visited just prior to returning to Gabi Court revealed that they had been arguing as they left the bar.

Toups was arrested and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder. He remains jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex pending a bond hearing. His wife is in guarded condition at a local hospital.
